I highly recommend Ana White's book The Handbuilt Home: 34 Simple, Stylish & Budget-Friendly Woodworking Projects for Every Room. If you don't know who Ana White is, check out her amazing site Ana-White.com. It's overloaded with awesome DIY plans, and has plenty to offer for both the novice and advanced woodworker (and everyone in between).

While it's an investment to procure the tools you need to build quality furniture, it doesn't take long to realize it's still considerably cheaper than going out and buying quality furniture (even cheap furniture isn't that cheap). Not to mention there's a certain amount of pride that comes with saying, "Oh, we built that!"
